PL/SQL: Still the Best Data Access Language
Limited Capacity seats available

Another year goes by, and most likely, another data access framework has been invented. It will claim to be the fastest, smartest way to talk to the database, and just like all those that came before it, it will not be. Because the best database access tool has been there for more than 30 years now, and that is PL/SQL. Although we all sometimes fall prey to the mindset of “Oh look, a shiny new tool, we should start using it," the performance and simplicity of PL/SQL remain unmatched. This session looks at the failings of other data access languages, why even a cursory knowledge of PL/SQL will make you a better developer, and how to get the most out of PL/SQL when it comes to database performance.

Operating your own Private Cloud in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure
Limited Capacity seats available

Corporate IT is going through a transformation. On one hand, there is pressure to reduce cost, adopt a subscription cost model and become cloud-native, on the other hand, they still need to stay relevant to their own business in spite of all the vendor-provided automation. There might be a way to do both. The Oracle Cloud Infrastructure provides a model where an IT department can reserve a slice of dedicated hardware and provide that as a service to their own business. They not only get all the agility and provisioning automation that comes in a cloud but they also keep control of it.

This session will help you understand how to build your own private, autonomous cloud in the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.

Database Optimizer ! Then and Now.
Limited Capacity seats available

In the early days of CBO, RBO and CBO had its own Fan Following. Cost-Based Optimizer had some issues and as we moved from version to version, it has evolved and is now more stable. CBO comes out with the execution plan within a few microseconds and has to take some critical decisions. These decisions are based on the inputs that, We, as a DBA provide to it. DBA's still struggled to keep up with the up to date inputs and thus there are times when CBO comes with some sub-optimal execution plan. But then, we do have a solution to address these as well.

In this session, let us walk through the history of Cost Based Optimizer with some interesting enhancements and solutions to some of the interesting problems.

Introducing Exadata X8M
Limited Capacity seats available

Oracle Exadata X8M, the latest release of Oracle Exadata, breaks new ground in terms of performance and scalability, without compromising high availability. It introduces a completely new storage tier based on persistent memory, a brand new high-speed RDMA over Converged Ethernet (RoCE) interconnect, and new KVM virtualization technology.  Come find out how Oracle's implementation of persistent memory uses Remote Direct Memory Access (RDMA) to provide close to memory performance, with unprecidentented 19-microsecond low-latency access to data and super fast commit times that dramatically speeds up OLTP performance while also boosting analytic workloads.  Learn how Exadata can unlock the true benefits of these technologies in ways other non-engineered solutions cannot.  Finally, hear how this new release will integrate into the overall Exadata family, and what this technology shift means for existing Exadata customers moving forward.

This session will provide a technical overview of the new release of Exadata, Exadata X8M, that was introduced at Oracle Open World 2019 in San Francisco. This will give existing Exadata Customers and others the opportunity to hear first hand about the new features of Exadata. These changes are the biggest shift in technology and architecture since the introduction of Exadata. I will explain how Exadata utilized PMEM in a way that is completely different than PMEM solutions, allowing us to provide these huge performance benefits, yet not compromise availability. I'll also explain what this means to existing customers who have X8 and earlier Exadata systems, and how these new machines can be integrated into their environments. Based on conversations with customers at OOW, this is a key concern and one that is likely on the minds of many attendees.

Must-have free scripts when working with Exadata / GI / ASM / opatch and in the Cloud
Limited Capacity seats available

We sometimes expect things to be easy but they are not as there is just no tool to achieve some simple day to day DBA tasks like:

- What instance is up on my RAC? what instance is supposed to be up ? on which nodes my instances are up ? are all my services back as they were after my maintenance?
- Is there a missing patch on one of the ORACE_HOME across my RAC nodes?
- How full is my ASM diskgroup? should I add the reserved size to the used or to the free size? which database uses more space?
- How to execute a simple query on all your instances regardless of where they are running?
- You would like a dcli for non-Exadata RAC?
etc ...

This session will be presenting some must-have free scripts made by a DBA for DBAs to ease many of our everyday DBA tasks for GI (Exadata or not), opatch, ASM and more. The audience will be able to freely download and use these free scripts as much as they wish.

Oracle Sharding - Hyper Scale, Globally Distributed Database
Limited Capacity seats available

Oracle Sharding enables hyper-scale, globally distributed, multimodel databases. It allows you to support applications that require low response time and high availability and meet data sovereignty requirements. This can be done by distributing your data across multiple data centers in a way that provides locality for applications either on-premise or in the cloud. Attend this session to learn how you can deploy a sharded database and elastically scale your transactions, database capacity, and concurrent users while honoring global data sovereignty. The session covers Oracle Sharding features such as system-managed sharding, user-defined sharding, RAC sharding, Oracle Multitenant support, Exadata support, and more.

This session will cover how you can have a single global Oracle database where data actually resides in different regions/data centers to honor data sovereignty requirements. It also discusses how such a database can support hyper-scale applications (with extreme ingest/thruput requirements) with a shared-nothing architecture of Oracle database supporting up to 1000 nodes.

Introduction to Python Development with Autonomous Transaction Processing [Bring Your Own Laptop]
Limited Capacity seats available

Welcome to the Introduction to Python Development with Autonomous Transaction Processing Workshop. This workshop will introduce you to the most rapid and advanced full-stack development environment available today.

In the next two hours, you will experience a day in the life of Derek McCarthy – a full-stack developer for the fictitious company Alpha Office. Derek has been hired to introduce new best practices to Alpha Office microservices developers. In this workshop, you will take on Derek’s persona to build a series of three cloud-based microservices database applications. In doing so, you will leverage the latest and most advanced Oracle and open-source technologies.

As Derek, you will spin up a new Oracle Cloud Developer Image from the Oracle Marketplace to quickly and easily deploy a complete development environment that is accessible from any location. You will also deploy the Oracle Autonomous Transaction Processing (Autonomous Transaction Processing) Cloud Service providing the full power of the Oracle database while requiring minimal administrative effort and minimal database knowledge and training.

Additionally, like Derek, you will work within the Oracle Cloud Developer Image to create Python microservices. You will utilize the best open source technologies to complement the Python language, including the Visual Studio Code IDE, the Flask micro web framework, the Bokeh interactive visualization library, and the ReactJS Facebook JavaScript library.

Finally, like Derek, you will create a pair of spatial applications. To do this you will utilize the GeoPandas extensions to Python together with Oracle Spatial functionality within the Autonomous Transaction Processing database.

Pre-requisites:
- Bring Your Own Laptop
- Bring Your Own Internet Dongle/ Hotspot

One of the most important aspects of Cloud application implementation is business intelligence and reporting. While most implementations focus on data entry and process automation, very little time is spent on empowering the users to develop reports. Oracle Cloud Applications offer a multitude of powerful reporting tools that can tap into the pre-built data warehouse for transactional reporting and the Essbase cube for financial reporting. This tutorial will provide attendees with easy to follow guidelines on how to build reports leveraging these tools. The session will also include a live demo of the reporting building capabilities.

Building Successful Applications on the Autonomous Database
Limited Capacity seats available

Well done! You've come up with the killer idea for 2020. You've got the best UI design anyone has ever seen! Your modern application ticks all the boxes — serverless, functional, Kubernetes, microservices, API-based, the list goes on. It runs on every OS and every type of device. But unfortunately, all of this counts for absolutely NOTHING if you do not understand the fundamental read consistency model of the Oracle database. And often this is totally hidden from view under an ORM. This session will peel back the covers to explain how the database processes your queries and how to avoid corrupted data in your applications.

Session will cover
- read consistency
- data concurrency
- locking and referential integrity
- DML restart and its implications

This can include customer service and marketing applications, where the chatbots can provide answers to questions on topics such as products, services or company policies. If a customer's questions exceed the abilities of the chatbot, that customer is usually escalated to a human operator. Chatbots are often used online and in messaging apps but are also now included in many operating systems as intelligent virtual assistants, and widely used in RPA as well. These chatbots can perform a wide variety of functions based on user commands.

In this presentation, I will be sharing about chatbots and common usage patterns of AI components NLP, ML, NTLK and also how to use different frameworks and languages like RASA and Python and as well as cloud offerings. I will present a demo creating a sample chatbot and how you can train the chatbots with different datasets or questionnaires and integrate with other service modules example, database health checkbox, information bot, etc.

Building scalable and failsafe networking solutions using Solaris
Limited Capacity seats available

This talk will dive into some ideas on how to build scalable and failsafe networking solutions using key virtualization and networking stack features on Solaris OS leveraging the unique design parameters thus providing the highest performance on the industry-leading high-speed network adapters.

The talk is self-contained and will start with a brief overview of the key networking features that will be discussed at length in demonstrating some real-life solutions currently deployed at some of our key customers

Feature overview
We provide a high-level overview of Solaris virtualization infrastructure viz. LDOMs, zones and kernel zones, as applicable to networking followed by an overview of Virtual NICs, Paravirtualization and hardware virtualization (SR-IOV).

The topmost focus will be on building and deploying High Availability solutions for enterprises. HA forms the basis for Oracle HA Cluster products and several other key enterprises. The use case will show how scalability and failover are achieved on Solaris based HA clusters.

We will dive into how HA features like Datalink multipathing (DLMP), Trunking and IP multipathing (IPMP) demonstrating several deployment scenarios where some have none or limited dependencies on the datacenter.

Flows is a unique Solaris networking feature, and we provide an overview, followed by a use case.

1. How to build an HA solution.
A 2 level solution using both Link aggregation and IPMP to get the benefits of both is a popular HA solution.

2. Flow use cases.
Flows provide the ability to rate-limit the bandwidth, or to set the processing priority of various classes of network traffic. We provide some examples of how to use hardware flows if NIC support is available.

3. PTP use case.
The Precision time protocol (PTP) an IEEE standard, provides a way for time synchronization across systems. We discuss Solaris support and a typical use case.

SCI Optimization Matrix for PUM implementation
Limited Capacity seats available

While there are multiple ways to implement PUM images, the best leverage of Oracle’s new tools/features can be achieved using SCI’s PUM implementation methodology and accelerators.

SCI Optimization Matrix is a tool that can be used during the fit-gap analysis phase to optimize the analysis process by automating effort to review
  • compare report,
  • application designer properties and
  • other relevant information

for deciding whether a code or property attached to a customized object can be considered for replacing with newly delivered features like Page Field Configurator, Event Mapping, Drop Zones and/or Forms and Approval builder. Thus, facilitating the project team reducing manual effort in identifying opportunities for reducing/avoiding retrofit efforts in future updates. This process scans through PeopleSoft meta-tables for gathering required information, so its application pillar agnostic i.e. it can be used for HCM, Finance, Campus Solutions, etc. This tool can be used while applying patches, applying tax updates, upgrading to a higher image, technical tool upgrades and every other project that has a fit-gap analysis phase at any scale.

By having a clear structure to the application, the development process, as well as the maintenance, is crystal clear to everyone involved making it much easier to have a successful application. Low code and agility still mean you need to design the application, and that's what this session is about.

Introducing Gen 2 Exadata Cloud at Customer
Limited Capacity seats available

At Oracle Openworld 2019 in San Francisco, Oracle announced Gen 2 Exadata Cloud at Customer, the newest generation of Oracle's popular on-premises database cloud service for customers that want cloud benefits but can’t move to the public cloud.  Gen 2 Exadata Cloud at Customer uniquely combines the best database technology and Exadata, the most powerful database platform, with the operational simplicity and pay-as-you-grow economics of the cloud residing in a customer data center.  Gen 2 Exadata Cloud at Customer introduces a new management and control function (control plane) running in the Oracle Cloud, eliminating the cost and complexity of a local control plane and providing an identical user and developer experience across both Cloud at Customer and public Cloud environments.  It also introduces refreshed Exadata X8 hardware with faster CPU and more storage.  The new generation simplifies the networking model, giving customers the flexibility to connect to the service directly to their local network.  In addition, it will be capable in the future of running Oracle Autonomous Database, which provides dramatic management savings and allows customer staff to focus on business value rather than database and infrastructure management.  Finally, find out what this means for existing customers of Exadata Cloud at Customer, and how they can eventually upgrade to Gen 2.

Gen 2 Exadata Cloud at Customer was one of the big Larry Ellison announcements at OOW SF 2019. There is a great deal of interest in Exadata Cloud at Customer, especially among more security conscious customers like banks, utilities, and government agencies. AWS and Azure have also introduced on-premises cloud solutions, affirming the popularity of this model. However, Exadata Cloud at Customer is unique in terms of performance, scalability, security and availability. Customers have been waiting for this new Gen 2 release to become available, but are interested to learn specifically what features are available, the roadmap, and how they can use this to realize the cloud economic and operational models while still conforming to their internal security requirements and standards.

Oracle Blockchain Cloud brings real time visibility and transaction authenticity in our Aviation Record Management solution
Limited Capacity seats available

By 2023, 30% of manufacturing companies with more than $5B in revenue will have implemented Industry 4.0 pilot projects using blockchain, up from less than 5% today according to Gartner, gaining greater cost savings (89%), enhancing traceability (81%) and transparency

The benefit of Blockchain will be quickly realized in the industry which runs huge transactions across various organizations on a regular basis.

We have used a combination of Oracle Autonomous Blockchain Cloud, VBCS and ICS to build the Aviation Record Management (RM)solution which will eliminate the below challenges

  • Redundancy in maintenance activity contributes to additional cost to operators
  • No trustworthy channel for validation of pilots/technicians skill sets
  • Data entered in the logbook is manual and can be easily manipulated or updated with false info.
  • Fraudulent activity for maintenance & warranty claims by Airlines/MRO
  • ARM solution will help to bring all these stakeholders in one common platform using blockchain for exchanging required data, authenticate them and use them for transactions in Oracle Cloud. Due to timestamped and immutable records available in the Blockchain platform Supplementary Cost would be avoided, Data Validations would be done real-time and Data tampering will be completely eliminated giving all the stakeholders a transparent view of their business transactions.

Presentation Summary:
Aviation Record Management (ARM) solution will help to integrate the Pilot's Logbook, Mechanics Logbook, Aircraft Flight Records, Maintenance Records across OEMs like Airbus; Operators like United Airlines, Delta; MROs, Government Authority and other stakeholders to make real-time data visible to all of them and bring trustworthiness in every transaction while the core business is still run on Oracle Cloud.

Oracle's latest HPC implementation - Clear differentiator for OCI
Limited Capacity seats available

If given a choice, would you want to run your compute-intensive workload on a monolithic single-box design or a cluster of servers working in parallel providing turbo clock speed?

This simple, direct question will help you cut to the core of expensive high availability infrastructure to cater to today's demanding workload.

Oracle's flagship offering to its Compute Services, the new X7 high frequency computes platform with its high-performance shape BM.HPC2.36 has taken the cloud market by storm. Industries across the world are now using Oracle's HPC or High-Performance Computing to run arduous resource-intensive workloads cost-effectively.

A substantial example of HPC capabilities is fraud detection. We are a population of 7.7 billion and growing with each one of us making at least 2 transactions in an hour, trillions of transactions in a day, making transaction analysis resource-intensive and exorbitant. Thanks to High-Performance Computing, trillions or even quin-trillion of transactions can now be analyzed across the globe in real-time, ceasing dubious transactions even before they occur - saving us all Millions of dollars.

But the question here is - how and why?

To answer the same and more like:
> What is HPC?
> Is HPC a beta version of a supercomputer?
> What kind of workload should be put on a HPC node?
> How much on a HPC node is too much?
> Which OS should I use - Linux vs Windows?
> What is the performance advantage on OCI?
> How will Oracle's HPC add value to my business?

In this session, we will not only get a comprehensive overview of Oracle's HPC offering but also test drive HPC on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure in minutes!
